Durango, Colorado, is a railroad town on the Animas River, not Durango, Mexico. Main Avenue is the historic commercial street. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad sells its own tickets for the run up the canyon.
The river is for walking and, in season, licensed raft trips. Town information is on the municipal site. Hub: Durango.
